On a Budget, But Need to Sell Your Home?  A Good First Impression Doesn’t Have to be Expensive!

Unless your property is in total disrepair, you don't need a huge budget to make your home appealing.  FIRST IMPRESSIONS EFFECT A BUYER’S PERCEPTION OF A HOME’S VALUE – WHICH EFFECTS HOW MUCH THEY OFFER FOR A HOME.  You get one chance, and only one, to make a dynamite first impression on a buyer.  While these should be basic ‘Home Selling 101’, these inexpensive actions, are surprisingly often overlooked.

1.  Your curb needs to be appealing!  Mow, trim bushes, pull weeds, and plant some colorful flowers.  Patchy lawn?  Put down a seed mix!  Mulch is old, faded and dirty?  Replace it!

2.  Clean the exterior!  Interior cleaning – SUPER Important.  But, a filthy exterior implies that the interior isn’t up-to-par either.  Clean the gutters and pressure wash the siding and concrete areas.

3.  Is the front entry inviting?  A fresh coat of paint, in a contrasting color, makes the front door stand out.  Replace old, faded, or rusted house numbers.  Make buyers feel welcome with a nice, clean welcome mat.  Is your entry light in need of repair?  Look for an inexpensive replacement online.

4.  Eliminate bad odors!  Bad smells can cause buyers to immediately terminate a showing!  What will a buyer smell when they enter your home?  The cat’s litter box?  Keep it clean!  Air fresheners, clean carpets, and fresh flowers are all scents that a buyer appreciates.  If your home smells, buyers don’t believe that it is clean.

Elbow grease is cheap!  Even on a tight budget your home CAN give potential buyers a great first impression, and in return, a successful sale for you!
